March 2026 Newsletter

It’s tax season and if you acquired your insurance last year through the Washington Health Plan Finder, otherwise known as the Marketplace or the Exchange, you will receive a 1095-A which explains how much premium tax credit you received throughout 2025. You’ll need that form to file your taxes.

If you had a health savings account in 2025, make sure you talk to a tax professional about how to deduct any contributions to that HSA from your taxable income. Also, if you didn’t max out your HSA and you’re wishing you had, you might still be able to make those contributions, so talk to a tax professional. Also talk to a tax professional if you are self-employed and paid for your own health insurance! That probably is a tax-deductible expense.

Under the Affordable Care Act, preventative care is a completely free covered service even before you meet your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum. So if you need an annual checkup, go get your annual checkup It’s free as long as you have health insurance. And that’s at the federal level. So there’s questions about what’s going to happen at the federal level as far as guidance for preventative care and vaccinations and if those services will continue to be covered free of charge. But Washington State just passed a bill called ESHB 2242, which means that in Washington State, those services will remain free and covered regardless of what happens at the federal level.
